Lambeth Stockwell Road Site
Address: 40 Stockwell Road, London. SW9 9ES
Where is the project?
The Lambeth multi services site is in Stockwell, just 10 minutes from the underground station - View Contact Details
Who is it for?
The Lambeth Multi Services Site provides housing for single homeless young people between the ages of 16-25 who are accommodated via the following services which are on site: Ex Young Adult Offenders, Second Stage Move-on Accommodation and Young Teenage Parents. The project is comprised of a diverse group in terms of ethnicity, faith, social background & aspirations.
There are many reasons why they may be homeless and needing accommodation/support: a breakdown in communication with their parents, dependency issues, physical & sexual abuse, non engagement in meaningful education/employment, gang related issues etc.
The aim of the project is to help residents gain lifestyle skills, access training and jobs, and to assist them in a move-on to more permanent accommodation. There are conferencing facilities on site as well.
How can I get a place there?
All the young people who live at the Lambeth Site (we refer to them as customers) are funded by Supporting People. To obtain a place at King George’s House, you need to be referred by the Support Needs Assessment and Placement Team (“SNAP”) at Lambeth Council. Contact details for the Team can be found on our local links page.
Lambeth Council will pass their referral information on to the project. Applications are discussed by the management team of the site to see if they are suitable for an interview in regards to their needs. If the applicant is suitable for an interview then a member of staff will contact the applicant with an interview date and time. Applicants will be interviewed normally by two Supported Housing Workers; the interview will be based on the information held on the application. South London YMCA advises all applicants to be open in regards to their responses, as these responses will determine if an offer of accommodation is to be made. Staff will inform both the applicant and Lambeth SNAP team of the outcome of the interview.
How long can I stay?
The length of stay at the site is dependant on which service a customer is living in, i.e. King Georges House, Ex Young Adult Offenders Service, and Teenage Parenting Service, but in general terms it will be between six months and two years.
What are the facilities?
- King George's House - 87 units of accommodation
- Teenage Parenting Service - 7 units of accommodation
- Ex Young Adult Offenders - 11 units of accommodation
- Second Stage Move On - 10 units of accommodation
All the accommodation in the different services on site have cooking facilities. The site is staffed twenty four hours a day all year.
What support do I get?
Supported Housing Workers meet with residents formally either every week, every other week or monthly, depending on the level of support required. Staff are also there informally without appointment at any time, if a customer requires assistance. Support and advice is provided on how to source training, help with job hunting and CV writing, budgeting and general life skills. Supported Housing Workers also help customers to complete the various forms for Housing Benefit, Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support, Disability Living Allowance, Community Grant and signing new tenure and referrals when they move on to new accommodation.
Service user consultation is important to the Association. Resident meetings are held every 6 weeks and a service user survey is completed regularly.
