Proposed Redevelopment of Cornerstone
South London YMCA is looking to redevelop the existing Cornerstone hostel at 32 Dingwall Road in Croydon and replace it with a much better, modern building with improved facilities and communal spaces.
Built in the 1960s, the existing ten-storey building has become run down and out of date. As part of a review of its properties and projects, SLYMCA has commissioned GMA Architects to develop proposals for a replacement building which would provide temporary accommodation and support for up to 80 residents, in a mixture of studios and 2 bedroom flats.
SLYMCA is aiming for high standards of sustainability (BREEAM Excellent) and will be submitting a planning application over the next few months. Subject to planning consent and funding, demolition work would begin in the New Year.
The proposals were displayed at a public exhibition on Friday 6 August at the Croydon Warehouse Theatre. A copy of the exhibition boards and feedback report are available as pdf documents below.
