Regulatory Bodies

Like all registered social landlords, we are monitored by a number of regulatory bodies to make sure that we are doing our job properly and with integrity, and to ensure that any funding we receive is used appropriately.

Organisations routinely monitoring us are:-

  • Charity Commission
  • Audit Commission
  • Tenant Services Authority
  • Local Authority Supporting People Teams
  • Companies House

Details of all these can be found on our Useful Links page

Charity Commission

South London YMCA is a registered charity and as such is required to submit an Annual Return dealing with Board member and financial details. The Commission regulates the administration and affairs of all UK registered charities.

Audit Commission

The Audit Commission is an independent body responsible for ensuring that public money is used economically, efficiently and effectively. It helps housing associations to improve their services, working with the Tenant Services Authority, and does this through their audit, inspection and research functions. The Audit Commission also encourages the use of Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOEs) which provide consistent criteria for assessing and measuring the effectiveness and efficiency of housing services.

Tenant Services Authority

Established under the Housing and Regeneration Act 2008, the Tenant Services Authority (TSA) regulates and monitors the activity of all registered social landlords. The TSA has just completed a wide ranging consultation on a new regulatory framework, complete with new standards governing our work, which will be implemented in the coming year. South London YMCA looks forward to working closely with the TSA around the implementation of the new standards.

Supporting People

The Supporting People programme, launched in 2003, is committed to providing a better quality of life for vulnerable people to live more independently and maintain their tenancies. The programme provides housing related support to prevent problems that can often lead to hospitalisation, institutional care or homelessness and can help the smooth transition to independent living for those leaving an institutionalised environment. The Supporting People programme provides housing related support to over 1.2 million vulnerable people. Each local authority has a Supporting People team. We work closely with the Supporting People Teams in Croydon, Lambeth and Southwark.

Companies House

As South London YMCA is a company limited by guarantee, we are required to submit an annual return to Companies House.
